Force Unleashed at GDC 2008

GameInformer magazine got the chance to check out both the Xbox 360 and Wii versions of Force Unleashed at this years Game Developer’s Conference. And we learned a few new things about the game. The most interesting part was about the Wii version. A bit of the exclusive duel mode multiplayer was shown off and it is reported to feature over nine arenas and over twenty classic Star Wars characters. Before it sounded like the duel mode was only with characters from Force Unleashed, but with classic characters it makes the Wii version that much more enticing.

Read the entire preview of both Force Unleashed and Fracture here.

Here is Ripten’s impressions from GDC:

Epic Force Unleashed Moment to be Delivered

Secret Apprentice
Variety Magazine has an article in their March issue that uncovers some things about The Force Unleashed. Most interestingly, the article states the game has a moment “almost as good as the “I am your father” moment from Star Wars: Episode V–The Empire Strikes Back.” Can’t get much more epic than that. The game is also supposed to have an unexpected amount of info on the birth of the Rebel Alliance.

To read the full article you can go to Vanity Fair. I admit I did not read the full thing to avoid spoilers but it looks to be a great read and a great look into the game.

Also watch an exclusive gameplay video: link.

Also the video is on YouTube but the sound is not very good. Let us know if a better version shows up.

Force Unleashed 3-Part Interview

A new 3-part interview with Haden Blackman has appeared on Gametrailers. He discusses a wide range of topics throughout the interview.

The videos are also available in HD.

Exclusive Force Unleashed Levels for Wii

Force UnleashedEd Tucker of Krome Studios recently spoke to NGamer Magazine and confirmed that there will be five levels exclusive to the Wii version of Force Unleashed to make up for the lack of DMM and euphoria.

“On the Wii we have places where the story veers off and we go and explore something, take the game in a different direction, like the Jedi Temple level,” Tucker stated. “There are five levels that aren’t in the PS3 and 360 versions.”

Tucker also spoke on the lack of DMM and euphoria. They have added physics engines of their own but they are not up to the standards of the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. “The likes of Euphoria and DMM are groundbreaking and we couldn’t copy them. What we did was try to look at the concept and idea behind it and get as close as we could. The ragdolls in the Wii version are robust, they look really good.”

GameSpot’s Force Unleashed Updated Impressions

Gamespot has a new article up detailing their thoughts on the game’s gameplay, graphics, and story. They also talk about the new technology used in the game, a part of Force Unleashed that is getting more and more popular. You can read the full article here.

Force Unleashed Interview

A new Force Unleashed interview with Haden Blackman has also appeared at IGN. He discusses many things about the game including the technologies and how the story will play out. He hints that the player will be able to choose their own path at the end of the game. View the video below.

IGN Demos The Force Unleashed

IGN has gotten the chance to demo Force Unleashed and has given an in-depth update on the game. There is a new video with gameplay footage as well as a nice article giving us some new bits of new information. One bit I liked to hear was that you get new costumes after each level and you can choose which costume to use for each level if you don’t like one of them, and throughout the game you will receive lightsaber crystals to change the color of your saber as well as to give it enhanced powers.

The preview can be found as IGN and there a few new videos you can also find at IGN.

Update: IGN also has some new screens of the Wii version of the game and though they didn’t get to play it they were able to watch the developers play. While the physics weren’t as impressive as the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, objects and enemies still react realistically in the game and it plays pretty smoothly. You can view this first look at the Wii version here.

Force Unleashed Webdoc 3

A new webdoc has been released to Yahoo’s Force Unleashed site. It features Haden Blackman and others discussing getting all the new technology working together in The Force Unleashed, giving us a great behind-the-scenes look. The three new technologies used in Force Unleashed are euphoria, DMM, and one we haven’t heard much about, Havok, which is used to give the apprentice’s Force powers the great force they have.

You can watch and download the new Webdoc from Yahoo Videogames.

Force Unleashed Slips Again?

According to a tip and verified by several sites, it appears that The Force Unleashed has been delayed to Summer 2008.

Amazon.com has changed the release date to August 26 for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Wii. Its assumed Amazon wouldn’t change their release date without a good reason.

Also, according to the 2008 Nintendo Preview at IGN and a printed list of scheduled release games for the Wii and DS for 2008, Force Unleashed for both Wii and DS is listed as summer.

These separate sources that both say the same thing nearly confirm for sure that the game has been delayed, though LucasArts has not commented officially on this yet.

Update: The official Force Unleashed website has updated their website to reflect the delay. Now it says Summer 2008.
