KotOR MMO in the Works?

Well for a while now there have been continuing rumors that Bioware was working on an MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) game based in the Old Republic of Star Wars. Some of you may have heard this rumor somewhere along the line, and for those who haven’t, well now you have.

Recently more rumors have surfaced, started by an apparent announcement that a source close to Bioware confirmed that the MMORPG the company was developing was to be set in the KotOR universe.

“A source close to BioWare confirmed to us today that the studio’s upcoming untitled massively-multiplayer online RPG will be centered around the Star Wars universe, specifically that of Knights of the Old Republic, which the developer released in 2003.”

Both IGN and Gamestop have picked up on the rumor. Primotech was previously a fairly unknown gaming news site which gives their announcement less weight. They claim that the game will be out sometime in 2009. Bioware have said the rumors are just that, rumors, and LucasArts would not comment on the topic.

While the rumors still seem pretty unlikely, a KotOR MMO would be pretty awesome if you ask me. It would definitely pick up the slack that Galaxies has left behind and would give everyone the ability to be Jedi, which is what everyone wants since now Jedi are a playable class in Galaxies, during a time when the Jedi are all but extinct. I would hate to see an MMO replace a single-player KotOR 3 but besides that, I’m all for it!
