Upcoming next-gen game from LucasArts to ship for PC in 2008
SAN FRANCISCO, CA. — April 1, 2007 — Originally planned to be solely released for consoles and handheld platforms, the upcoming next-gen game being developed in-house by LucasArts, The Force Unleashed, has been confirmed by LucasArts to be released on PC shortly after its console version release in Q2 of 2008. This unexpected move has been reportedly due to extreme fan demand for a PC version.
“Originally the game was only going to be developed [by LucasArts] for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. But after enormous cry for a PC version, we have decided to begin development on the PC version of Force Unleashed,” said LucasArts President Jim Ward. When asked about euphoria and Digital Molecular Matter (DMM) being implemented on the PC, he responded, “While I don’t know all the technical specifications, it is my understanding that both euphoria and DMM will be able to run smoothly on the PC by 2008.”
“The game will be nearly identical on the PC to its console counterparts,” Ward reassured. “All PC games have their differences such as controls and this one is no different.”
The game will be shown at the Electronic Entertainment Exposition (E3) July 11-13, 2007, in Santa Monica, California.

*grin* Not that any PC gamer in their right mind would actually care about another console port.
Fess up!!! What you *REALLY* want from LucasArts is another Jedi Knight or Republic Commando game…!
Can you imagine stepping into Kyle’s boots again, picking up a saber, and jumping into a world realized in modern tech like Unreal Engine 3!? And, if the very thought of leading Fixer/Sev/Scorch through a version of Kashyyk rendered in CryEngine2 does not make you drool outright, you are not a real PC gamer…

Let’s face it: LucasArts hasn’t thought up anything new in ages, just rehashing the old. The newest storyline they came up with was Kotor, and anyone that’s played the second one knows they lost interest halfway through, and scrapped the third to make room for an MMO. Beyond that, they had the Jedi Knight series: now sitting high on a dusty shelf somewhere being used as a bookend, and Republic Commando, which was at most only a third of a full game’s worth. Most other things to come out have been carbon copies of other games, just with a Star Wars skin over it and calling it fresh and new.
They finally think up something clever again, and what do they do? Bite the hand that feeds them. PC people. Consoles are simply standardized computer hardware no matter how you look at it, and yeah, designing to fit one thing is a lot easier and cheaper then designing to a range. Anyone that isn’t paid to say otherwise knows those consoles can’t do anything a computer didn’t do first and better.
Ultimately they’re afraid of losing a buck to pirates, which in theory is completely understandable. The reality, however, is that console games are pirated just as much if not more as the systems are becoming more popular. All LA is really doing is losing themselves the extra money earned from PC sales, and risking alienating more and more of their consumer base. People aren’t going to run out and buy a console just to play this game. The best rating’s I’ve seen for it so far has been 7.2 “decent” rating with a low in 6’s. Some people are going as far to say this isn’t even a strong game in itself, just a large scale tech demo for Euphoria and DMM’s performance on a console. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time that’s been the case.
I could go on, but there’s just no point anymore. Hopefully, like some recent titles like Mass Effect, LA will release a PC version in a few months, once sales drop on consoles.
